Please Read The Guidelines before subscribing to a list.
AOL customers Please Read This
UNSUBSCRIBE from any Railfan.net email list.

subscribe rshsdepot
Make sure to send the mail to "majordomo" and not the name of the list!
Digest versions of these email lists are also available. Digest lists send the
entire day's list traffic as one long email message in the morning. To
subscribe to a digest version of a list append "-digest" to the listname, eg:
To unsubscribe to a list, use the "Unsubscribe Request" links or
follow the same instructions as for subscribing above, but
replace the word subscribe with the word unsubscribe. Send a one one line email
message to majordomo -AT- lists dot Railfan dot net (Be sure to replace " -AT- " with @ and " dot " with "." in your mailer):
unsubscribe erielack
Here's an example:
To : majordomo -AT- Lists dot Railfan dot net Cc : Attchmnt: Subject : ----- Message Text ----- unsubscribe erielack(be sure to replace " -AT- " with "@" and " dot " with "." in the email address and don't mail the listname, mail majordomo@!)
To switch from regular list mode to digest mode or vice versa, you must unsubscribe
from one and subscribe to the other.
Make sure your email to majordomo is being sent in plain text and not HTML.
Click Here for information on how to make your mailer send email
as plain text and not HTML.
NOTE: Listmail member addresses which "bounce" back email as undeliverable for
more than one day will be unsubscribed from all lists to which that address is
subscribed. List owners receive delivery failure notifications which can be
quite obnoxious when it occurs for every piece of outgoing listmail. Digest
list subscribers will be unsubscribed when two consecutive digests are
undeliverable.
Please DO NOT subscribe under an address which uses a Web Based spam filtering
service such as SpamRival which requires any email sender to go to a web
address in order to be able to send email to the subscribed address. Listmail
bounced for that reason will cause the address to be un-subscribed from all
Railfan.net email lists as it is not reasonable to expect every list member to
jump through hoops so you can get their listmail.
Do not subscribe using an email address based on a Dynamic DNS hostname which
is not directly connected to the internet 24/7 as delivery failure notices end
up in the list owner's mailbox for every piece of listmail which is not deliverable
within 1 hour's time. If you don't know what this means, then don't worry about
it as it is unlikely you are using a DynDNS address.
Subscribers should make sure their mail program sends mail to the list members
as plain text and not HTML. Text encoding should NOT be set to "Quoted-Printable"
or "QP" as plain text doesn't need any encoding for email.
Please note that attempting to
subscribe to a list with an email program which is sending mail as HTML or with QP encoding
may cause the subscription attempt to fail.

When quoting a previous message during the composition of
listmail it is good netiquette to quote only the portions of
the previous listmail relevant to your reply.

If your mailer program is configured to send HTML email with
a "stationary" image as the background, please disable this
feature when sending listmail as the stationary image will
be extracted and added to the listmail photo archives!
It is very bad form to have your mailer configured to send winmail.dat
attachments with each piece of listmail. Microsoft Exchange does this by
default. To disable this feature/bug please visit
M$' "How to Prevent the Winmail.dat File from Being Sent to Internet Users"
help page.
AOL customers may have problems sending photos to the list. AOL
software may zip your photo attachment without your knowledge.
The mail lists only accept jpeg and gif photo attachments so
please adjust your settings or contact AOL's support department
if you need assistance.
To add insult to injury, AOL has been blocking much of our listmail with
a bogus "reason: 554-: (HVU:B1)
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554hvub1.html" message claiming
that AOL customers have been complaining about a URL in the message. I have seen
this reported for blocked email which contained no URLs whatsoever. It is HIGHLY recommended
that AOL customers obtain a free email account with gmail, yahoo, hotmail or anywhere
except for AOL in order to have a reasonable assurance of recieving their WANTED email.
CompuServe and Netscape also use AOL mail servers so those addresses don't get their
email either.
Update: AOL now appears to be blocking subscription confirmation requests with the
same bogus message so it may now be impossible to sign up for one of our lists with
an AOL email address. There is nothing we can do about this, AOL customers need to
complain to AOL.
