(erielack) Weekend Chief July Pix

I know commenting on captions placed on Weekend Chief Calendars are
fruitless but I really must voice exception to the July pix of an F3 and GP7
teamed together. This can not be a Sunday Train. It is probably the
Saturday Hoboken-Washington local. During the week this would bhe "The
Lakeland". No trains ran to Washington on Sundays and it it were headed for
Branchville there would have been a milk car of two tagged on it. I do
remember seeing this team. As a middle-schooler, I would see the first
Lackawanna Commuter train roll into Mountain View with the F3 and Geep.
Other pictures reveal this team of engines to be on 1009 leaving Hoboken in
the pre-dawn hours and returning to Hoboken via the Boonton Line with an
operating RPO. The pair would then take the first commuter train back up
the Sussex Branch with the last stop for passengers at Newton but continuing
on to Branchville to work Becker's and Borden's creameries. Sometime after
the merger the uniting of the F3 and GP7 ended.
