If an employee gives you permission to take stuff destined for the dump, its not stealing. At least not in my opinion

I refer to this as "LIBERATING". The 11 filing cabinets of employee records that I donated to Steamtown last year were "LIBERATED" from the Port Jervis roundhouse about 2 months before it burned. Those records were just rotting away in there and the Conrail policeman that I asked said "take what you want, it's going to the dumpster anyway". It was still technically stealing but I think that I did the right thing. "I'm not a fan of theft, but if stuff is going into the garbage, I'm all for taking it for the sake of preservation." -- Blake D.
