(erielack) More on those 40' boxcars in the Paterson shot by Rich Onorevole

There has been much discussion about those 40' cars, but I don't think they were going to scrap. Heck, the EL was getting 40' cars rebuilt for food service in late 1974! These cars still had plenty of life left in them.

To bolster my theory, I was looking through some of the consist sheets on the ELHS website, and NY-98 on 8/13/75 has a good example: A group of 10 EL 40' boxcars are at the head of this train, being set out at Portland. Customer? "AGENT, EL RR"

I've seen other consist sheets with 40' cars at the front for the agent at Croxton. When customers need empty cars for shipping, the agents call back the empties for loading. I'm wondering if these cars aren't headed west to Buffalo or Marion for loading?

Just a thought.... Happily, the EL was still running plenty of 40' cars before CR, which is nice for modelers!
