(erielack) More on P&D MOW and operations



On the way to lunch today, I happened to drive under the P&D east of Murray Hill Station, and an NJT GP40PH-2 was slowly pulling a ballast train overhead.

So... a few questions....

* How often did the EL perform major maintenance on this branch? Today's right-of-way is stellar in appearance compared to how it looked in EL years (lots of state $$$ will do that, I suppose :), so realistically, how much major work was done on the P&D in EL years (if any?)

* Not having my Book of Rules handy, I'm assuming the P&D was a timetable/train order operation, correct? The current control system (I'm assuming it's CTC/TCS or whatever today's variant of that is) was installed during the re-electrification in 1983, yes?
