I don't know about the DL&W, but I once read a story about a yard goat pushing
an NYC passenger train up West Albany Hill (NY) and not being able to uncouple
at the top. It was supposedly dragged for a while with its drivers spinning
furiously before the train could be stopped so it could cut off. 

I wouldn't think pushers on passenger trains would be used by the DL&W unless
for some reason or another a train was exceptionally long or conditions
unusually adverse and adequate head end power was not available.
