Re: (erielack) Lackawanna 0-8-0s
The 256 is heading in the direction of Scranton tender first. But I think it
is only taking a cut of empty hoppers to the north end of Taylor yard. Back
then all coal loads went to Hampton yard and were sent over the hump. Empty
cars all went to Taylor Yard and then were forwarded to "the mines" as
needed.
East bound loaded coal trains left Hamton on this track, went over Bridge 60
and along the south side of Scranton yardand straight on past East End Tower
without stopping. Oher wise they would completly block the small Scranton
Yard. West bound coal trains left Hampton and went north on the Keyser
Valley Branch and on the main line at Cayuga Tower. Loaded or empty hoppers
were almost never sen bein switched or standing in Scranton Yard unless they
were for a local industry or coal yard.
I also heard that solid coal trains sometimes came out of Kingston Yard and
went straight to Hoboken, but I personally cannot verify this. But while
spending hours in east End Tower I heard the operator tell the number of
pusher engines returning from the Poconos that were going back to Kingston.
