The IHC E8 is the same piece of junk AHM imported years ago, made by
Rivarossi with a 3-pole vertical armature motor driving 2 of the axles in
the rear truck only, with tooling dating to the early 1960's somewhere.
Even the Model Power E8/9 surpasses the quality of those things by a mile,
but to compare to the Life-Like model is like comparing night and day - the
LL even looks nicer than some brass E units I've seen. They have an
Athearn-style motor, but wound differently (runs much better), dual
fluywheels, all axles are powered and pick up electrcitity, directional
headlight, working mars lights (simulated effect), and incredible detail
with all kinds of seperately applied detail parts where the IHC shell is one
cast plastic piece with only the horns as seperate parts.
The Bev-Bel EL unit does look a little weird, but that may be some sort of
compromise, as they look like they were done from Lackawanna units that LL
ran through without putting roadname and numbers on.
