RE: (erielack) PK2 ERIE GP-7
Paul, Rich and listers:
To see a comparison of the standard and 'raised' end railings check out:
http://gelwood.railfan.net/loco/el1226o.jpg
You will see EL #1226 coupled to # 1232 behind it. Note the top of the
railing on the front of #1226, aligns with the bottom portion of the EL
diamond on # 1226; with #1232, the top railing aligns with the upper portion
of the EL diamond (almost, at least from the photographer's angle of view,
in exact alignment with the top of the 'E').
#1232's railing, starts out at the curve where it transitions from a
vertical run to a horizontal one at the same height as #1226's (i.e. at the
top of the steps), then runs horizontally at that height for a few inches,
then upward diagonally, and crosses the EL diamond decal horizontally, and,
although you cannot view it in this picture, I would presume repeats itself
symmetrically on the other side.
Interesting pic and comparison.
Also, another small oddity, notice on the following two pics. that #1226 and
1227 both have an ex DL&W boxcar in tow, 15 years or so postmerger at the
same location (Phillipsburg, NJ and in the summertime, less than a year
before CR):

The Life-Like GP7 is being released in the non-dynamic brake version, nos.
1224 and 1227. These two units are part of a batch of four that had
"standard" end handrails (most Erie GP7s had elevated drop-steps, and
corresponding "raised" end railings)
As far as I know, there are no plans to do the non-dynamic brake versions...
