I have seen the article, and all the photos you are referring to. Probable my
second all time favorite article. I also have the brochure you are referring
to. I missed seeing them at Port Morris by a few days. They went down the P
Burg line, and then on to Allentown yard before heading to Baltimore. There
are commercial slides available of all ten of them sitting in the middle of
Allentown yard, from up on the Hill.
With the knowledge of missing all of the original ten, and knowing that 1860
was sitting at Hornell NY out of service, a school friend and I did the next
best thing that year. Hornell NY might as well been Montana as far as
borrowing my parents car, so
an open Box Car out of Port Jervis became our transportation to a place I had
never
been before. It's a long story, but my first photo's of a Lackawanna ( Erie
Lackawanna painted) Trainmaster were had, and I cherish the memories, and the
photos I got inside the shops on that trip.
That was the easy part. Getting home proved to be a little more difficult.
