Wow!! This one is great.
http://www.railfan.net/railpix/ABPR/may01/05-09-01/Hoboken-L.jpg
Look at the second pier from the Left, See the white part right before the
water. It is made of concrete, the top is kind of "H" shaped and it has three
long vertical window looking things. Am I crazy or does this thing still
stand? Not the whole building but the end part? Every time I go to Hoboken I
walk out by the water near track 17 and look out over the river for A while,
I always thought this thing was used to load something into boats, but it
doesn't look like that here. Anyone know what this thing was?
Next look Two piers to the right. See the one on the end sticking out on an
angle? The track next to the building climbs up A ramp and ends right at the
water. Was this for loading Coal barges?
The next cool thing is at the top of the photo near the center. Look to the
right of where the DLnW goes into the tunnels. See the trestle climbing the
hill? This was A trolley line that started near the terminal, It climbed up
that steep bridge to the top of Bergen hill. Some of the rails are still in
the cobble stone streets by the Terminal. Look just after the line gets to
the top of the hill. It looks like there is A Station covering the tracks.
Some other neat things are: The Clock tower on the terminal, I count 4 plumes
of locomotive steam, The MU shed and round house and the JC freight warehouse.
Thanks for posting these pics.
