(erielack) Erie Street
The word "Erie" is used throughout the midwest not necessarily
because of the affection for the railroad. However, many towns
were so glad to get a railroad, they would assist in building it.
Often the railroad would comply with presenting them with an
elegant station.
However, the word Erie goes back to the name of an American
Indian tribe that lived along the southern shore of the lake. That's
how the lake got its name. They were defeated by the Iroquois.
A block away from my house in Northern Virginia, just out side the
Nation's Capital is "Erie Street".
When I grew up in Mountain View, NJ, I always wondered why the
street next to the Erie station was "Greenwood Ave". It took a
while to discover that the company was originally the New York
and Greenwood Lake.
