Good point, because most EL cabooses (And there were plenty marked this way)
had the smile face etched right into the dirt buildup. I think the little
Mexican guy named Herby sleeping under the palm tree was the most prevalent
form of graffiti spotted on boxcars during EL's era. Also the famous "Bozo
Texino" with the Cowboy hat that I think started appearing just after the
Conrail merger. This form of classic Boxcar art is fast becoming a thing of
the past, today all you see are multi colored spray painted "Tags" covering
the side of most freight cars.

Or, for some of the latest Boxcar art that you may see passing through your
town...

Go to the "Online exhibit" and see how many you recognize, you may be
surprised!

I don't think I've ever seen a photo of an Erie, DL&W, or EL car with
graffiti. Are there any examples online? Also was spray-paint not as
readily available in the past or is this a societal thing?

| It's sad how much Graffiti you see trackside these days compared to the EL
| days, most common was the smile face on the red bay windows in the late
| 60's. Well here's an interesting BNSF paint scheme... Paul when are the
| decals coming out?
