According to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language, College Edition:
peck' ing or' der : 1. a social relationship within a flock of poultry in which any one member may assert his dominance by pecking weaker members, but is in turn pecked by those stronger than he. 2. a similar relationship within a human social group.
