A bit off-content here: in an effort to learn more about these connections we've been discussing, I've been reading Peter Lynch's "Penn Central RR". For anyone who's even peripherally interested in EL's main competitor, this is an excellent book by an insider who examines PC's operations region-by-region, and explains why the big road was doomed from day one.
