It didn't happen! The State of NJ tried, but couldn't make a dent in the Lackawanna's reinforced concrete. Rather than giving up altogether, they did a cosmetic makeover, plugged the underpass with fill, repaved US 46 (which it needed), installed new guide rails, and built a sidewalk on the north side. On the north side, the parapet has been restored. On the south side, it was cut off (bet that was a job and a half) a few inches above sidewalk level.
