Conklin_yard_powerplant.jpg (image/jpeg, 296x213 12889 bytes, BF: 4.89 ppb)
A while back, I posted a story in response to Schuyler Larrabee's question about whether there was a power plant in Conklin yard (DL&W side). I referred to an old steam engine man who'd shoved a hopper car through the bumping block and had it crash to the ground. I thought I had a foto of the old power plant & I just found it. It's in the background of this rather dark foto., but you can plainly see the concrete pillar supporting the track at the 2nd floor level.
The building in the foregroundwith the 4 windows & smokestack is the locker room...just south of the yard office & BY tower. This had originally been a large restroom & was still referred to as such. There is a track just this side of the building referred to as the 's---house track -as in "park your engine in the s---house track & go to lunch". The nearer track is the westbound maintrack. I took the foto from the parking lot just off Conklin ave.

Walter Smith
