Another thought about Bridge 60's name from John Willever, via Bill Herkner:

In answer to your question as to why "Bridge 60" was so named, I asked the
towerman at Washington tower who was then a very elderly man in 1944. He
said the numbering of bridges were from the eastern terminal going west and
he believed the numbering began at Hoboken via the Morristown Line.
However, he said that it could have been possible that the numbering began
when the DL&W first began operating as the DL&W (not as the Liggetts Gap
Railroad) etc., and that the numbering could have begun at the DL&W's first
"eastern terminal" that is to say at Hampton, NJ
But would there have been "60" bridges between there and Scranton? I do not
know and unless there is some very elderly member of the DL&W's engineering
department who would have known the history of the bridge numbering and
might be still be living. Otherewise, the answer will be lost in the mists
of time.
