Ed,
Just a heads up to let u know that I mailed the June, 1967 dispatcher sheets
today & sent them PRIORITY mail. U shld be looking at them in a few days.
I spread them out on my kitchen table while preparing them & saw some
interesting notes under the Syracuse Div'n. It said that "engine 430 (an EMD
switcher) to medico depot" L.Utter engr.& Whitehouse condr. The medical epot
was a huge military depot with many tracks just before the bridge over the
Chenango river on the east side of the tracks. The guard had to come & open
a gate & then he'd follow u around to make sure u didn't steal anything. For
instance - there were large copper ingots laying around on pallets out in
the weather.
On the mainline there was a note under the heading 'helped' (pushers).
It showed engines 916 & 953 helped train #5 Dover to Scranton. At Scranton,
they changed engineers on these 2 Alcos but the engines stayed with #5
Scranton to Hornell. When I first glanced at it, I thought they'd just made
the move to get the 2 900s from Dover to Scranton, but then they continued
to Hornell. Strange move, eh????
Regards,
Walt Smith
