So that this topic doesn't run the same path as others have, please use the above subject title when discussing this. In that way, anyone who wants to talk about it can and those who get pissed because they don't think it belongs here don't have to read it. Anyone who is not interested can just hit "delete". There is enough room for a topic like this and this topic, in my opinion, is relevant to all of us. I for one do not want to see the day come when as law abiding citizens, we are considered to be the enemy. If anything, people like us are another set of eyes and ears. I hope many (as I) will comment using "Railfans & Civil Rights" in the Subject box. Yes, it's a good idea to write to the elected ones to express our disgust at the lack of organization when it comes to national security. However, rail enthusiasts as a group can be a powerful force if we join together under one umbrella to express the violations of civil rights that many of our numbers have encountered. Between the various rail "lists" and historical societies, I'm sure that when counted, our numbers are large. We know that the politicians will listen more closely when they see "numbers" and are reminded that we vote. Only then will something be done to keep our civil rights intact. The key is the organization of us across the board regardless of political ideology. I'm certain that I'll get some flack on this but in my opinion, it's worth speaking out and quite frankly, I'm getting a little tired of seeing people shouted down because some would rather live in the past than face the reality that our freedom to document our past is slowly but surely becoming jeopardized. As it's been said, "United we stand, divided we fall".
