I just picked up my three-pack of the Athearn built, EL ACF2970 hoppers. Nice cars, great once weathered, but I find that I've a question. As they are decorated, the cars show a "New" and "Built" date of 06/67, but they have a statement reading "When empty return to agent EL Rwy Marion Ohio". Now, how can this be? If these cars were built in June 67 and DERECO/EL Rwy didn't exist before March 1, 1968... At the very least, couldn't Athearn have put a 'paintout' on the routing block (To show it as an addition, or a paintover of the RR with Rwy, if the idea is to have these shown as post-DERECO cars? Personally, it doesn't matter to me, as my EL exists in 2006. So, the routing instruction gets heavily faded (Good location for a COTS decal) and the data gets modified (RPNTD MDV 05-03). Still, it makes one wonder... or am I just too picky?
