Perhaps another reason for the 1974 downgrading of the Delaware division? Paul B From: "ronald" <rdukarm_@_adelphia.net> Subject: (erielack) Taxes I read an article or study many years ago when Conrail was being formed. IIRC, Conrail paid more taxes in New York State than all the other states combined where it had trackage. High New York State taxes was one reason railroads in this state tore down unused structures and removed unused switches and tracks. It caused railroads to sell off real property assets maybe sooner than they wanted to. I suspect yard facilities and freight routings were also affected by the high costs of doing business in this state.
