Shenango is railroad west of Greenville; Amasa where Erie crossed the former LS&MS/NYC Oil City branch is railroad east of Greenville. Bruin where Erie crossed the PRR's E&P is just west of Shenango. At Shenango, you had three railroads parallel for a short distance with three different directions towards Greenville: [PRR E&P]westbound, [B&LE] northbound], [Erie] eastbound. The Coalburg yard of LS&MS/NYC was at the junction of the LS&MS/NYC Youngstown branch and the Sharon branch [which paralleled Erie into Sharon]. Coalburg was where transfer runs from Youngstown and Shenango Valley were consolidated for the run to Ashtabula via either High or Low Grade lines. This dated back to formation of lines in 1872-1880 era. The junction just south of where I-80 was called Doughton [CP-52]. I-80 goes over the wye that was part of the junction and that was rebuilt in Conrail era as part of the connection to the former Erie. Coalburg yard included engine facilities and became downgraded during the 1920s. Later and up to recent years, a scrap yard was active there. If you want I could send an incomplete history of the NYC's Franklin Division to you. I think Pete Gifford is working on a history now. As Mr. Timko reported, Conrail eventually ripped up the Erie from Doughton to just west of downtown Youngstown, a connector from the former Sharon branch was put to the Erie. Paul Stumpff
