It was "subsequently abandoned ... because it did not produce any consequential amount of water" In 1923 the division engineer reported that "some one has torn out a part of the floor and taken off some of the side walls ... and carried same away" He asks and receives permission to sell the property "before any more of the building is carried away" 1947 adjacent land (but not the pump house) is sold 1952 G. A. Phillips recommends to P. M. Shoemaker selling the building to a contractor who is using it for storage. There was no record of the sale ever taking place. Fast forward to the present, and the building just off the DL&W main, minus the parts "carried away" 84 years earlier, remains. Thanks to Pat McKnight's of Steamtown NHS for his recent hospitality and access to the original documents attached here as letter 01-05. I can't even imagine what else he has waiting there to find! The photographs from last week, well I had to trudge through some old blackberry vines to get those :) files are pump house 01-04 Frank ELH&TS #52 ELHS #2116 Colorado Springs, CO The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
