Paul and List, The "A" series work tenders were used in fuel oil service. My records show a number of them around 1950-53. Probably were used for diesel fuel as diesels took over from steam. Other work tenders were in the 04000 series and 05000 series. Several tenders were converted into snow plows. Up to 1951 the Erie had 11 tenders specially fitted for fire fighting and had foamite in their tanks. These were assigned to wreck trains. Two "A" series former tender numbers are: 3210 to A-203 and 3361 to A-204. The tender 04013 mentioned in a previous post was converted from tender #3016. Of course, tenders were used with steam wreckers, cranes, pile drivers, etc to provide water and coal.
