(erielack) Earle Gil

Hi folks,

Here is a press release from the Whippany Railway Museum. Earle Gil was
definitely tied into the EL, having run steam excursions over the
Gladstone Branch, and even ran a train to the Morristown & Erie
interchange to bid farewell to the last Phoebe Snow.

Morris County Central RR Founder & President Needs "Get Well" Wishes

Earle Gil, former president of New Jersey's Morris County Central
Railroad (MCC) is in need of support from friends and rail enthusiasts.
Since May 2006, Earle has undergone several operations and chemo
treatments and is now once again in a local area hospital recovering
from pneumonia.
Those who might not know Earle, in 1965 he was responsible for starting
the first standard gauge, historic preservation railroad in New Jersey,
the "Morris County Central Railroad". Equipment was in the form of
ex-Southern Railway 2-8-0 No. 385 (Baldwin, 1907), and several former
CNJ commuter coaches of 1915 vintage and a 1923 PRR N6b cabin car. In
late-1965, ex-U.S. Army 0-6-0 No. 4039 (ALCO 1942) was added to the
roster.
For those who know Earle, he is stubborn and a fighter. Despite his age
(78) his recent illness is frustrating to him because he would love to
keep working on projects at home and at the Whippany (NJ) Railway
Museum, former home to the Morris County Central.
If you have time to send him a get well card or a letter, he would love
to hear from those who appreciated his efforts and sacrifices he made to
preserve a little piece of history.
