Maybe its the July sun and heat, but here is my short list of EL matters that I have never heard good explanations of. These are random and in no particular order of importance. 1. From DL&W post-Diane days, still have never heard much of anything about those military locomotives leased for flood recovery. What kind; Where used, How long etc. 2. With the sizable fleet of passenger coaches that EL had in 1964-65, why was it necessary to lease supplemental coaches from D&H? Were World's Fair traffic increases that significant. Details on the lease (how many cars, car #s, how long was lease?) 3. The plan to put World Fair visitors up in sleeping cars (in Hoboken?) Did that ever happen? If so or if not, how was that going to work? Wondering about meals, showers, evening entertainment and who (besides railfans) would want to spend a night(s) in a stationary closet. 4. Where was the tipping point when leadership finally decided to fold long distance passenger service. Is there a "smoking " memo yet to be discovered in the archives? After the Fair there was a long slow decline, but it would seem that at some point someone decided "getting out" is our objective. 5. This is mostly based on the Roger Grant book. How can two brothers, William White and Gary White, be so dissimilar? The former: respected, revered, missed; the latter: egotistical, dominating, intractable etc. (William was not sorry to see Gary resign.) You may have your own list of items.
