Mike, An educated guess here, but I would think most feed grain in boxcars was handled in bulk with "grain doors", which were then knocked down at the dealer and the grain shovelled out. Don't know about the vacuum device. This was used for powdered bulk like flour. I imagine a small percentage of grain was bagged with or without pallets for small farmers. (This is really to help with the modeling of an open door car on a team track.) Oh, the time frame is the early 1960s. Were most box car loads of feed in bags? What was the size of the bags (weight) and would they be stacked on wood pallets or just on the floor of the car? Was feed sometimes shipped in bulk in 40' box cars through using wood/paper grain doors? If so, was the load just shoveled out by hand or was there some vacuuming device to empty the car? (I know bulk feed soon moved to covered hoppers.)
