It looks like the process was more complicated than simply getting in a boxcar of feed. The feed itself was a mixture of ingredients grown locally and shipped in by rail, then milled, blended and bagged for primarily local consumption. Since the feed was distributed locally and preferably fresh, I gather that by the 1960's, relatively little was shipped by rail. So the local mill on your 1960's layout is primarily receiving bulk grain in boxcars with grain doors and bagged ingredients in other boxcars. These mills and elevators were found all over EL territory, so Frank, your thorough review will be helpful to many EL modelers.
