Re: (erielack) EL Commuter Operations and New Transit Questions

Gov. Meyner signed the first subsidy bill in June 1960. It provided cash as follows:

PRR $1,698,000
CNJ $1,392,000
DL&W $1,656,000
Erie $582,000
NJ&NY &78,000
LV $30,000
NYS&W $58,800
PRSL $437,000
RDG $9,600

The actual amounts varied a bit when it came to actually signing the contracts. The LV refused its subsidy and discontinued its service.

Subsidies were adminsitered by the NJ State Highway Department -- so when there would be discontinuance hearings and the like, the name "Dwight L. Palmer" would be included on the notices as the Highway folk had to be involved.

Cheers,
Jim
