Paul,

Since this is southbound NY-100 I suspect the photo may have been taken from the New York Thruway.  If I recall, this fence was installed to keep intruders from walking onto the roadway.  It paralleled the EL ROW for quite a distance.

Time to turn the EL calendar!

November's shot shows a C425 and two GP35s, all matching in the "early
variant" GMY scheme with maroon lettering, heading past the big grass
field at Arden, NY leading a train of classic 1960s-era freight
equipment.

Interesting in this shot is a chain link fence topped with barbed wire
separating the tracks from the field, but the barbed wire is facing in
TOWARDS the tracks, as if it was to keep people climbing over FROM the
tracks to the field. Huh?
