I work near that hospital.  In case you forgot (since it's been three years), 
if you take the A train (center platform at 34th St.) or the C train (don't 
take the E train as it goes to Queens), either way, get in the back of the 
train.  It will leave you at the 58th St. exit of the Columbus Circle station.  
You can then walk straight across 58th St.
 
After you're finished, take a walk up 9th Ave. to 60th St.  Hang a right, 
walk one block to Columbus Circle and check out the Time Warner Building.  It's 
pretty neat.  If you have time you can also take a tour of the CNN studios in 
there.
