Steve - No correction is necessary, but a bit of expansion might help. I don't have the DL&W signal standard plans, but typically the light-out relays would insure that a signal would not display a false proceed aspect (a higher indication than intended). On the DL&W, the LOR that checked the red lamp would have to make all others dark, and drop the H control so the signal to the rear would display an aspect indicating no better than "Approach." The LOR with a coil in the circuit for the top arm yellow lamp would just open the H control and cause the signal to display the single red aspect for either "Stop" or "Stop and Proceed" depending on the absence or presence of a number plate on the mast. A signal displaying "Stop" was more desirable than a dark signal, for obvious reasons, but if the only red lamp in the signal was burned out, a dark signal was the best you could do in that regard. > While not being an expert in signal issues, I believe that "light out relays" cause the signal to be dark if any light in either arm fail. Hopefully Gordon will correct me if this is not true.
