Time to turn the calendar over once again! The EL calendar February image is a cold (yet sunny) winter's day in Hornell, NY. The various wisps of steam from the shops tells us it's pretty chilly. It's a nicely-composed view of the sanding towers at the ready tracks to the west of the shops. Sitting at at towers are SD45 3604 and E8 809. Interesting note about the 809 - towards the end of the EL, the upper headlight was plated over (maintenance savings?). Nice to see her still in freight service! In the background we can see two F-units by the shop in the distance, and LA&L's RS1 just in front of the shop, visiting for wheel work - a nice example of how you can work "foreign power" into your layouts. And who would have thought that of all the motive power in this shot, the only thing still remaining is that RS1! Just to the right of the RS1 is the (tall) concrete base of a long-gone water tower. A nice "railroady" feel to this image. - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
