The entire scene may have been staged for photography. Note the second trailer from the right straddling 2 cars (no TTEX's in those days!). All the trailers are canvas tops. Clejan cars were easier to load because both trailer and hostler tractor were self-guiding with small wheels engaging the center rails. The driver is leaning out the passenger door and the loader is also on the passenger side. Perhaps just for the photo - to catch the sun side. Later in the article the Erie notes that when loading Erie Clejan cars, no steering is needed when backing the trailers on.
