Re: RE: (erielack) EL calendar: March 2008 (2)

Peter,
I don't think it's so much a case of anyone 'backing' what Weekend Chief
does, as much as most find it convenient to have it, inasmuch as many of the
captions leave little to be desired. I personally enjoy the calendar for
some of classic shots it contains, captions aside of course...

We had discussions in the past on the ELHS Board about possibly doing
calendars, but if I recall correctly, the profit margins were pretty small
vs. the work necessary to accumulate 13-14 slides, write captions, find a
printer, handle the distribution and mailing, etc., year after year; and
although we obviously have the ability to generate through the many fine
photographers and collectors we have in the ELHS, to develop a hgih-quality
calendar annually, it unfortunately wasn't worth the cost involved vs. the
small profit it might have generated...

It's unfortunate that Weekend Chief does not recognize or realize the
caliber of people available that have the ability to provide accurate and
timely captions, but for whatever reason, he feels obligated to do it on his
own...

I worked with him over a couple of years in the early- to mid-1990's, and as
Schuyler indicated in a recent post, he sent me stuff to proof, only giving
me 24-48 hours to turn it around and get it back to him - which I did, only
to not have any of the changes made that were suggested, so we felt if
wasn't worth trying to participate further if he didn't want us a team
player in the project if he was simply going to do what he wanted...
