Remember -- the plant didn't have to be on the EL for the EL to get the coal traffic.  New England burned a lot of coal for power (still does) and much of it moved over Maybrook.

Nowadays, Mt. Tom, MA, and Bow, NH, both get train loads, often with NS run-trough power -- although the situation is always in flux. Much seems to be coming in through ports in Rhode Island; P&W gets the haul to PanAm.
