(erielack) DT&I/SPEG/ERES

While paging through a history of the DT&I (yellow hardbound), I read about bridge traffic run through a combination of DT&I to Lima, and then west over the SPEG/ERES to Chicago. It went on to say that at least one bridge train ran this way. Why did this not succeed?

As a side note, based on different maps I've seen over the years, the one that sticks out in my mind about the EL trackage post 04/01/76 is in Preston Cook's book "EL Memories". I can distinctly see the line marked out of service/removed between Glenmore, OH and Decatur, IN immediately after CR started, on top of trackage west of North Judson removed at the same time. If this was the case (tracks removed immedaitely after CR startup), how did this bridge train run over trackage that was removed? Who is right in this case? Was the trackage removed, or did this reported train run? Obviously it can't be both.
