The NJ Sierra Club actually suggested more lanes on I80, so it's not just opposition to rail on the basis of fears of sprawl, but also that they have some not-so thoughtful folk in leadership roles. 

High gasoline prices coupled with the credit crunch is taking care of sprawl without further ado. Break out the exoburbs mortgage foreclosure sumbers from the metropolitan areas and you'll discover that people who moved to those far off places are being forced to decide among gasoline for their commute or paying the mortgage . . . When gasoline hits 6-8 and then $12 a gallon in a few years, there'll be little concern about "uncontrolled sprawl" as the market will have taken care of it.

Anything that gets trains started on any part of the Cut-Off is good news, and as I worte earlier, will result in full restoration to Scranton sooner rather than later . . .
