It's quite possible. EL in color has a photo of PC power on UT-74 at Wellsburg, implying the PC locos may have been positioned at Hornell after dropping UT-97 at Elmira. I think this is a more likely scenario than EL locos being exchanged for the PC's at Elmira on UT-74. Do you know if UT-97 would have just dropped its train in Elmira and then run as a "caboose hop" on to Hornell? It occurs to me that the crew needed to get back to Hornell by the end of the day, and so did the power. I seem to recall caboose hops going in both directions through Addison back in the mid 70s.
