The big lashup is two roadsets, balancing power reflecting the preponderence of EB tonnage. As was so often the case with NE-97, there is a caboose tucked behind the locos. This is where EL usually placed cabeese being repositioned; many other roads tacked them on the end. Q/BN power was frequently turned back on this train after coming in on EB counterpart NE-74, but not this day. There is at least one TOFC visible. LTTX cars were frequently used on Maybrook TOFC due to restrictive clearances on the ex-NH Shore line. Paul B The July EL calendar photo features a wild and BIG lashup - 6 units (GP35-U25B-GP35-SD45-SD45-F7B) on train NE-97 moving through the verdant landscape at Pond Eddy, PA on July 1, 1970. The roadbed seems to be fairly well maintained in this image, and the motive power appears to be fairly well-kept up, too. It's hard to believe that within four years this line would lose its "premier" status when a large traffic shift to the DL&W side would occur. - - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
