Greetings list; For the past couple of months, Paul Tupaczewski and I have been batting around the idea of holding an informal Erie/DL & W/Erie Lackawanna-themed Railroad Prototype Modelers meeting, wherein modelers get together and bring any models they are working on or have finished, for display and discussion and learning. Slide shows and power point presentations would be presented on any E/DLW/EL modeling topics as well as prototype information, and clinics would be given for learning new modeling techniques. This would not be an "official" ELHS meeting, but just a gathering of modelers getting together to share their efforts and learn some new ideas, etc. There will not be any judging of any kind, just display. This is all about sharing and learning about what we very strongly believe to be the greatest and most diverse of railroads. I have taken this a step forward by inquiring into renting a venue and setting a date and I am writing to see what kind of interest might be generated by such an event. As of right now, the plan is to hold this event on Saturday, October 18th, 2008, at the LH Taylor Firehouse here in High Bridge, NJ. High Bridge is easily accessible from Interstate 78, NJ Route 31 and County Road 513. While NJ Transit has not yet seen fit to bless High Bridge (the last stop on the Raritan Valley line) with Saturday service, I would welcome volunteers to provide transfer service between Somerville or Raritan for those wishing to commute by rail. Time permitting, we would offer a self-guided tour of the High Bridge area, identifying local railroad landmarks of interest, such as the High Bridge branch trail upon which SE-98 and ES-99 once trod, as well as the CNJ station, etc... For lunch, we would probably enlist the local pizzeria (Michaels) or the Mexican Restaurant (Casa Maya) to bring in lunch, and will have soft drinks available as well. I invite all those who might be interested to send me an e-mail, OFF-LIST PLEASE, so that I might gauge the interest and possible attendance figures for such an event. The more attendees, the less it will cost, so if you are at all interested, please let me know. I fully realize that this is probably one of the worst weeks to announce such a thing, what with July 4th and summer vacations and all, so if you have friends that might be out of range, let them know however you can. I will be re-posting this for the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to all and I hope to see you in October!
