Chuck, As usual, you dust off some cobwebs in my mind and I thank you for that. In the 70s, I did cost accounting for a core drill manufacturer in Scranton and thanks to these posts, I remember the IBM punch cards and how half of the room was taken up by "the machine" as we called it. It seems like centuries ago. In addition to determining the cost of constructing a core drill, with its diamond drill bits, each morning I would go to the different "shops" to pick up the punch cards and bring them back to what we called "the machine room." We never gave it a name, we just called it "the machine,," lol. The nice thing is that the company was located near the D&H main so I got to see the lightning stripes each morning. From my office window I could see the main so it was very cool to work with punch cards and be a train watcher and all the time getting paid for it. From the other side, I could see Erie Lackawanna above the North Scranton Expressway, so this guy had it all. Who would have thought that all these years later, the "machine room" would be reduced to virtually zero and that both D&H and EL as we knew them would be gone. Thanks for the dusting off, Chuck.
