(erielack) Cloudy days along the EL (was: time to turn the calendar)

Paul,

Well, someone else already beat me to it and they are right.

If you are talking about the average number of cloudy days at locations where we have been taking routine weather observations for a great length of time (read: mostly airports), then several locations in the Pacific Northwest are cloudier. Those locations include Astoria OR (239) and Quillayute WA (239), Olympia WA (228), Sea-Tac Airport (226), Portland OR (222), and Kalispell MT (214).

Binghamton comes in seventh place with 212, but is actually tied with Elkins WV. That is the most east of the Rockies, if we exclude the observatory on the top of Mt Washington NH (245). Most of the other population centers to the lee of the Great Lakes are in the low 200s (Buffalo 208, Youngstown and Syracuse 205, Cleveland 202) so Binghamton isn't all that far ahead, on the order of 5-10 more cloudy days per year. Southern Ontario is probably a little cloudier than Upstate and Western New York. Incidentally, Avoca PA comes in with 189, so that is a significantly less number than Binghamton.

So, there you have it, Binghamton gets a bad reputation with 212, but the rest of the Susquehanna and Mahoning Div territory should hardly brag.
