Re: (erielack) Named Freight Trains

Erie had the "Flying Saucers", trains 99 and 100. As I understand it, this
was an unofficial nickname (at least initially) that came from the
employees, and was falling into disuse by the time of the merger. The only
EL named freights that I'm aware of were those interchanged at Huntington
with N&W and inaugurated during the Dereco years: ECE and WCE, the East and
West Coast Expediters, and the New York and St Louis Cannonballs, NYCB and
SLCB. It's evident from the symbols that these were official names, not
nicknames.

Subject: (erielack) Named Freight Trains

Quite some time ago I downloaded an image from George Elwood's Fallen Flags
website. It was a freight running South out of Utica and the data provided
said it was "The Scranton Bull". Was this an official EL name for the train
or a nickname? Were there others on the EL system? Very curious and thanks
for any help.
