Is that true? Yes, I believe that is true. I'll have to go back and check my copy of "Alco: A Centennial Rememberance" by Dick Steinbrenner; I believe he addresses this in that book. (Rogers became one of the components of Alco) But yes, the Erie was the closest railroad, and it was still a good mile away.
