Paul, The job was mostly called the "P'Burger" from the mid 60's into early Conrail. When the job was temporarily run Croxton to P'Burg in the 60's, the caboose had chalked on the rear bulkhead "P'Burg the Rocket". Another name I forgot to mention was the "Phillipsburger". In the 60's it was a Croxton-P'burg job, later cut back to Port Morris or E Dover. I'm guessing it was called this during the DL&W years. Paul B From: "Schuyler Larrabee" <schuyler.larrabee_@_verizon.net> Subject: RE: (erielack) Named Freight Trains Sorry Dr. B, but the Flying Saucer was an Official Erie Railroad name. There was advertising in the general press bragging about the speed the train made from Chicago to NY. It might have >> originated<< with employees, but it was not "just an unofficial nickname." The name started in the mid-50s, (1954?) and at that time was probably "cool," but by 1959, it was no longer "cool." Not surprising it fell away. I know this because I read about it when we named the ELHS sales newsletter "The Flying Saucer."
