I think this question came up many years ago and I think I then gave a wrong answer via a quick look into Preston Cooks all color book that has a detailed roster at the back of it. I again gave a quick look at it several days ago and gave the wrong answer again. The Erie Power book which I don't have, has the correct answer in regards to the two Lackawanna switchers ( not three ) that were MU able. The 481 came as a separate one unit order but it was not MU capable. I think I will finally make a correction in Preston's book. :( 482, and 483 are the correct answer for the two Lackawanna Alco switchers that were MUable. Per one of my good former Scranton Shop friends, one of their haunts, when they would be MUed was working the Pompey mine run at Scranton. This Breaker on the NYS&W was accessed via the O & W after the Lackawanna's Winton Br was abandon. My article in Vol 12 No 1 of the Diamond and Vol 14 No 1 of Flags, D iamonds and Statues on motive power assignments for April 12, 1957 showed both of those two engines working in Hoboken on separate passenger drills that particular day. Also, for the record, a builders photo I have of 482 confirms MU receptacles on both ends of the unit. Bob Bahrs In a message dated 12/2/2008 10:35:02 A.M.
