Re: (erielack) EXTENDED COMMUTER SERVICE

Martz Bus has two 'peak hour' trips scheduled from Scranton to New York at 2 3/4 hours each; I don't know how close to that time they actually operate. They do not stop at all of Martz's pickup points (other trips cover them) and have the advantage of the bus lane in the Lincoln Tunnel, avoiding the usual hour delay, but are often delayed leaving the tunnel for the bus terminal.

Inbound schedule, with links to others:

The typical Pocono commute is 3 1/2 to 4 hours each way, including driving to and from the bus and taking the subway from the bus terminal to the office. What a life - eight hours of commuting...

I live a mile from I 80 exit 37. It's a 90 minute drive to Steamtown, across the street from the Martz depot. It's 45 minutes to the GWB unless there's an accident, a common event in peak. US 46, NJ 3, and the Lincoln Tunnel are far busier; I NEVER go during peak.

One of the worst backup areas on I 80 is at I 287. Much of the traffic exits there to go south to the Morristown area, including MOST of the cars with Pennsylvania license plates. The rail studies have shown that most people coming from the Poconos will leave the train by Summit, one reason the weekday trains don't have to go to New York.
