Mr. Bahrs asks: So my question still is, what size coal by name was the most abundantly produced, shipped, sold, consumed, etc. I have access to the station agent's books for 1931, for the Perry (NY) station of the BR&P. They list the cars shipped into Perry, by week, and in the case of Anthracite, also list the size, and origin of the coal. Topic disclaimers: 1) Perry was not located on the DL&W or Erie (although it was geographically close to both). 2) All of the shipments are from RDG or LV. The data below is offered as a representative sample of what was consumed - I think you could call Perry a "typical" northeastern village of that period, with a pretty good mix of manufacturing, agriculture, commerce, and residential housing. The data is broken out by month, in order to show the seasonal changes in the traffic. Each type of coal is followed by the car count for a given month.
